Our story begins with the birth of Oscar Serrano in the town of Puerto Cortes, Honduras. Early on, his mother became the sole provider for him and his siblings. Daily he witnessed the extreme poverty of his community and vowed one day to help those children and senior citizens who were forced to live homeless on the streets and at the dump. Upon graduating from High School he entered the Baptist Seminary in Honduras and was ordained as a pastor. He also worked in a management position for Coca Cola. Soon thereafter, a Friend Ships humanitarian aid vessel called, The Spirit Ship, pulled into port. He felt the Lord was leading him to join this group. He became the supervisor in the engine room as the ship ministered to various ports in the Caribbean.

AMY RILLS

A short time after high school graduation, a young lady from Louisiana, Amy Rills, decided that she wanted her life to include service on this same ship. She was assigned to work in the engine room for Oscar. Also, on board this same ship was a couple, Eric and Laura Smith from Castle Rock. They ultimately all became friends as they continued on their journey.

"THE FRIENDSHIP" / "LA AMISTAD"

When their service for Friend Ships ended, Oscar and Amy returned to Louisiana and were married. They soon joined the Smiths in Castle Rock to start a ministry together. Their first efforts were directed to sending a container full of medical supplies to a doctor in Vietnam that they had met while serving on the Friendship. Eric's brother, Paul Smith, accompanied the container there to be sure it was given to the intended recipient. Their next effort was to do a similar container project for Honduras.

FRENTERS JOIN MINISTRY

It was shortly thereafter that the Smith's father, Bob Smith, a good friend since grade school of board member Lyle Frenter, contacted him to ask if his wife, Mary and he could help this fledgling ministry. His reply was, "Well, we can help them a little bit, but we can't get too involved because Mary just retired and we are going to travel and play some." You can see how strong their determination was - Mary is now the president and Lyle is a charter board member!

Lyle and Mary Frenter

In January 1998, Serranos and Paul Smith traveled to Honduras to investigate the price of property for a Children's Home. That Spring, Pastor Roy Henson of the Castle Rock Full Gospel Church, joined our meetings as an advisor. In the fall, Hurricane Mitch hit Honduras hard and changed all of our lives forever!

HURRICANE MITCH IN 1999 / HURACÁN MITCH EN 1999

We sent Serranos to Honduras in early 1999 to receive our medical container that Dole agreed to ship for free. Serranos called us and told us that the docks were swamped with containers and no more were allowed. There was no infrastructure left in the country to get the container things to the people. However, the dock master told him, "If you want anything out of the containers that are here on the docks, help yourselves". So we sent them funds to purchase a truck to take supplies to the needy.

During these delivery trips, they met a pastor trying to take care of 18 boys in an orphanage in the village of La Pita. He requested they ask their church to send support for the boys and to return and build them a tech school. In response, the members of Castle Rock Full Gospel Church began supporting all the boys. The fall of 1999, Pastor Roy Henson became the President of WWH2H and organized 51 individuals on two medical teams, 5 Tech school construction teams and one crusade team led by Pastor Ed Miller of the Castle Rock Christian Church to travel to Honduras from Jan-March of 2000.

PASTOR ROY HENSON

In response, the members of Castle Rock Full Gospel Church began supporting all the boys. The fall of 1999, Pastor Roy Henson became the President of WWH2H and organized 51 individuals on two medical teams, 5 Tech school construction teams and one crusade team led by Pastor Ed Miller of the Castle Rock Christian Church to travel to Honduras from Jan- March of 2000.

FUNDS MISUSED AND ORPHANAGE MISMANAGED IN 2000

We soon discovered that the support monies we were sending to the Honduran pastor for the La Pita Orphanage were being misused by him. It was then determined that if we were to accept peoples' donations for a project, that the only way we could guarantee that the money would be spent for what it was given, was to own and manage the orphanage ourselves.

In September of 2000, Oscar Serrano, Pastor Roy and Linda Henson, and Mary and Lyle Frenter went to Honduras for two weeks to find out what had happened at the La Pita Orphanage. There were only 5 children left living there. There was little food. The Pastor had stolen all the kitchen supplies, the school supplies, and the construction supplies we had left the March before.

No había mucha comida.

SEARCH FOR PROPERTY IN 2000 /
BÚSQUEDA DE TERRENO EN 2000

So we went looking for property to build our own Children's Home. We found nothing. Two days before our return, the mayor of Omoa invited us to meet a friend of his whom he thought might be able to help us.

Early on a Sunday morning, we met Salomon Lopez, who told us that the night before, he had dreamed we were coming and, in the dream, God told him he was to help us. He mentioned that another group from America had been there the week before and he had given them some property as well. On that morning Salomon gave us the 8 acres that has now become the WWH2H Children's Village and home to 73 beautiful children, our Gifts from God. When completed there will be room for 120. Most of our children have suffered extreme mental, emotional and physical abuse. But God is healing them with the love of His Saints in Honduras and around the world, who pray for them, sponsor them, write to them and go visit them, encircling them in the arms of family.

No encontramos nada.

STEVE SHARP MEETS EDGAR IN 2002 / STEVE SHARP CONOCE A EDGAR EN 2002

We continued to raise funds and send teams to build a little at a time. In 2002, one of our team members, Steve Sharp, met Edgar, now 11 years old, who had lived in the La Pita orphanage. He knew we were building a place for him to live. Steve tells it best. "Edgar came up to me when he saw my WWH2H shirt. He didn't ask me for food and he didn't ask me for money. He just wanted to know, "When is my home going to be ready?" Steve was so moved by this thin slight child that he vowed to come back to the U.S. and raise the funds we needed to finish the home. He told us he was not going back to Honduras until he could finish the home and would not come back to the U.S. until he tucked Edgar into his own bed.

MARY FRENTER ELECTED PRESIDENT IN 2003 / NOMBRÓ A MARY FRENTNER PRESIDENTA EN 2003

2003 was a pivotal year for WWH2H. Pastor Henson resigned as President and Mary Frenter was elected. She prayed for God to show her how to do this job. She investigated other ministries online to find one similar to WWH2H, so she could go visit them and pick their brains. She found one in Kentucky and one in Baja, Mexico. In February, the plumber friend of a friend mentioned to him there was an organization similar to WWH2H headquartered somewhere in the northwest. It was called International Children's Care (ICC) Mary looked them up on the Internet and found they were located in Vancouver, WA. 35 minutes from her home! She called them and spoke with the President, Rick Fleck who told her she had to talk with his mom, Alcyon Fleck, the founder of ICC. So, she went to meet Alcyon. As they chatted, Mary mentioned how WWH2H was given the property in Honduras. She told Alcyon, "And you'll never guess the name of the gift giver. It is Solomon, like King Solomon!" Much to her surprise, Alcyon replied, " Not Solomon Lopez?" She knew him! Turns out she was the ministry he mentioned to us that he had met with the week before we showed up in 2000!! Long story short, ICC agreed to mentor us and continues to advise us to this day.

NATIONAL DIRECTORS & EDGAR

In July we sent Oscar and Amy Serrano to live full time as our National Directors, so the work could go forward faster. In August, Frenters went to help out. One of the children who had lived in the La Pita orphanage, Edgar, had been asking our team members each year when he saw them on the streets of Puerto Cortes, "When will my home be ready?" Four days before we arrived, Edgar was electrocuted as he climbed out of a store vent where he had gone to sleep for the night.

Our hearts were broken. We had not worked fast enough. When Frenters returned home, they contacted all their relatives and asked for help to open a Meals from the Heart program to at least begin feeding the children living on the streets and at the dump. This program lasted for a year until another mission group took it over. Serranos investigated the circumstances of each of the 80 children who came to eat each day. One day, they met 5 boys who were living together under a bridge. Oscar asked if they would like to come live at the partially completed building in Tegucigalpita. They said yes and on September 21st, 2003, the first 5 children moved in at our Children's Village. It was like camping, but they stuck with us and helped complete the Clinic building which was their first home.

MERCY SHIP INTERNATIONAL

In December of 2003, one of our pastors, Ed Miller went to Honduras with a friend of his who had been the Youth Pastor at Ed's church years before. This friend, Steve Wilcox, was looking for a small ministry to help and wanted to see first hand what we were doing. As they were traveling back to Puerto Cortes from our Village, they stopped in Omoa, a sleepy fishing village on the Caribbean, to have lunch. As they ate, a total stranger approached them asking if they were Christians. Then he wanted to know if they were responsible for the project at Tegucigalpita. He said he drove by it each day and it looked like we were having a difficult time completing it. He wanted to know if we wanted some help. He was Lawrence Jones, the missions coordinator for Mercy Ships, International. He told us he would try to gather three construction teams and $25,000 to help us build the following summer of 2004. Steve Wilcox said he would match that. Neither knew we had estimated it would take $50,000 to complete the first phase of the Village!! In 2004 Steve Wilcox raised over $60,000 for us in construction funds and Mercy Ships has sent teams each year since to help us build.

Our first Vacation Bible School (VBS) teams ministered to almost 700 children in January. The medical team treated 3,000 patients in February. In March, the construction team raised the steel for the new roof on the whole complex. Summer and fall saw building teams from Honduras, Washington State and Mercy Ships working to complete the clinic, one house and parts of several other structures. The plumbing and electrical systems were completed. Our farm got off to a good start with three cows, two fish ponds, a chicken coop, and a large vegetable garden. Five more children came to live at Children's Village. After a furlough in Washington State in December, the Serranos returned to Honduras with a truck filled with donated items.

INCORPORATION AND HONDURAN BOARD 2004-2007 / INCORPORACIÓN Y JUNTA DIRECTIVA DE HONDURAS 2004-2007

When we began this vision, we told God we were only going to have boys at the Children's Home, because mixing boys and girls could lead to difficulties. Our first 5 arrived in 2003. The next three He brought to us were Ilcy and her two brothers. So we said, "OK, God, I guess we will have girls. But we really can't take kids with special needs because that takes so many helpers and lots of funds." The next three children He brought to us were David with a club foot, and his brothers. So, we said,"OK God, I guess we will have special needs kids, but we REALLY cannot have toddlers and babies because they REALLY take lots of money and helpers that we don't have." So,… we opened our toddler/nursery house in November of 2007, and now we don't tell God stuff. We hush up and listen and watch Him create out of nothing what He wants in Honduras.

In the ensuing years, we have become incorporated as a nonprofit in Honduras. We have established a Honduran Board of Directors, that, along with our Church Family, works with Oscar and Amy Serrano to manage our ministry in Honduras. We have finished the original structure, which is home to our boys, built a Girls' Home, a baby/toddler house, an older teens and young adult men house, a church for 500, a long-term volunteer's living quarters, a technical school, a laundry building and a playground. We have a gym-sized cement slab for soccer, basketball, tennis, and volleyball, a baseball field, an orchard, a dozen milk cows and a garden. Washington Overseas Missions installed a water purification system on our well system. We have a woodworking shed, a tortilla making shed and two storage buildings. We are blessed with teachers for house moms and all our children 10 and older are home schooled. We will add the little ones, hopefully next year when we get our school done. It will be an English immersion school and will be open to the public for a fee, which will be used to fund the school. In addition, in the next months we hope to build a Toddler/Nursery House for our babies at the Children's Village. In January 2008,we were given another 10 acres in the Santa Barbara Mountains to build another Children's Village, as well. Again - amazing!!!

¡Otra vez-asombroso!

BIBLE STUDY BECOMES CHURCH AND MORE

In October 2006, our Honduras Board asked Oscar to conduct a Bible Study on Sunday mornings. Sixty people showed up the first Sunday. Now over 300 show up. We rented the Rotary Club building in Puerto Cortes for services until 2008 when we bought property and built our own church and a house for our teen and adult boys while they attend private schools and the university. This building will also be used for our Meals from the Heart program to feed those living on the streets. The WWH2H Church was dedicated in August 2008. Pastor Ed Miller held the first crusade there in September 2008. Someday we hope to have a free medical/dental/optometry clinic, a teen center, and a home for abused women and their children here or near this location in Puerto Cortes. We will see what God has in mind.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE

In August of 2008, as a result of one of God's Divine Appointments, we were blessed to meet Paul and Joyce Chiles of Samaritan's purse. They facilitated a donation to WWH2H to begin construction of our new Baby/Toddler/Teen Girls House. It was completed by God's grace, with the funding help of several others, in early June 2009 when the children moved in. Eventually, we hope to build a home for mentally handicapped children , a school, and a warehouse at our Children's Village. At this time, we have 97 children in our family, ages 7 months to 21 years old. In April of 2009, again by God's grace, we began the construction in Puerto Cortes of the home/WWH2H headquarters for our Directors, Oscar and Amy Serrano.

STAFF

The only employees who receive a salary are those who are employed on site in Honduras. All those who travel there on Construction, Medical, VBS, Maintenance or Crusade Teams pay for their own travel and in country expenses. Almost 100% of donations we receive are used for care of the children, with a small amount used for publishing and mailing newsletters. The whole ministry has been accomplished by God's love pouring out of hundreds of His kids from all over the world to His kids in Honduras. To God be all the glory!!! Amen.
